Workshop “Brave Spaces – Safer Spaces” with Soph Benja Petzelberger.

We are very excited to invite you to the third edition of the Activist Academy. This time we will explore how to create resilient, caring and strong activist spaces.

As we live in a society built on unjust power structures, this can result in violence, that also our personal and activist spaces are not free of. Especially in spaces we feel safe and empowered in, violence can have huge and devastating impacts on our communities. At the same time, we are often not well equipped to deal with violence in a way that does not further perpetuate these harmful structures. In this workshop we will gain collective knowledge on how to protect our communities and spaces from violence and foster ideas and tools on how to deal with violence when faced with it.

The workshop is open for everyone and Soph will take into account that people might have different experiences with activism and transformative justice.

This session might touch on sensitive topics and emotions. We hope that nevertheless, or even exactly for this reason, many of you will join us. We will try our best to hold a space with care, empathy and curiosity for all of us, so we can build resilient spaces in the future! If there is anything in particular you need to join such a session with us, don’t hesitate to contact us beforehand.

Soph Petzelberger lives in Berlin. They are a coach and facilitator experienced in facilitating spaces around Awareness and Transformative Justice.

Nightfall on Gaia: Film Screening and Discussion

When: April 10th / 20:00 - 22:00

Where: Lumen 1 (Droevendaalsesteeg 3a)

Nightfall on Gaia is an experimental documentary and speculative fiction on Antarctica.

"In April 2043, Dr. Xue Noon finds herself stranded in the GAiA International Antarctic Station. As the polar night closes in she connects herself to the Ai-system to scavenge digital memories and archives. Nightfall on Gaia is a speculative ethnographic film that depicts the lives and visions of human communities living in the Antarctic Peninsula. Grounded in ethnographic fieldwork conducted in Antarctica, the film is an experimental meditation on the future of the Antarctic as a new extreme frontier for human inhabitation, the complexities of a fragile planet at the verge of ecological collapse, and the vicissitudes of an uncertain geopolitical future for the region."

The film will be followed by a small discussion.
