WITH/OUT MODERNITY

Modernities' stories of seamless progress, scientific reasoning, and technological fixes are expiring. How do we (collectively) hold space for the uncomfortable feelings, conversations and silences when facing the coming death of modernity? How can we interrupt our satisfaction with modern-colonial desires that support some people's comforts and effects, but rather make space for new possibilities to sense, relate, and imagine otherwise? This theme invites us to do the affective and relational work necessary for navigating “within” and “gesturing out of” (with/out) modernity. Activities include: Building the house of modernity A workshop to craft the ''house of modernity'', a pedagogical metaphor that sees modernity as a habit of being that is based on the foundation of separability, supported by twin carrying walls of universal reason and nation state, sheltered by the roof of global capitalism.
