Intercontinental braiding of Indigenous and Cree and Lepcha perspectives

Published on 4 November 2026 at 13:23

Workshop Date:  October 29th
Time: 15:00-17:00
Location: Orion B3020, WUR Campus

The workshop explored water and the impacts of hydropower along the Teesta River through an Arts-based storytelling workshop grounded in Lepcha Indigenous perspectives and folklore, of Rongnue and Rangeet rivers, presented and facilitated by researcher Minket Lepcha.

We spent an afternoon spent afloat in rivers of different parts of the world. Minket Lepcha (who is working with indigeneous Lepcha and Cree communities across the Himalayan region and Cananda set us off on the water, cradling our journeys with Himalayan flute music. We were in the room with spirits of rivers from all around our gentle planet.

On the second day, we screened Minket’s film Voices of Teesta and discussed the ongoing development and climate-related disasters across the Himalaya, the meanings and purposes of storytelling in Minket’s work, and what it means to braid these stories together in her PhD work.

Thank you to CSPS who supported in co-organising the event and a huge thank you to Minket and Mesh who anchored it :)
