Against State and Capital: taking back autonomy with democratic modernity

Date:  November 5
Time: 18:00-20:00
Location: Canteen, Clockhouse (Generaal Foulkesweg 37)

Speaker: Reimar Heider
Academy of Social Science

We live in a world in crisis. Our political and economic systems are creating climate breakdown and social inequality. But what is an alternative?

Defend Rojava Wageningen and OtherWise have invited Reimar Heider of the Academy of Social Science to discuss democratic modernity: an inspiring example from Abdullah Öcalan in which women's liberation, direct democracy, and ecological sensitivity are essential.

Join us on Nov 5 to learn about the guiding philosophy of the Rojava revolution. The principles of democratic modernity go beyond the Kurdish liberation movement and call for a free life for everyone!

The Academy of Social Science is focused on "sociology of freedom". They value knowledge produced in social movements and communities of struggle alongside academia and strive to produce knowledge which is understood by those within and outside of academia. The academy researches current structures of domination that govern state-capitalism and look to possible alternative futures. They publish the journal Democratic Modernity which can be found on their website.

Organised together with Defend Rojava Wageningen
