Academy of Democratic Modernity
With Abdullah Öcalan’s call for "Peace and a Democratic Society" on 27 February 2025, a strategic shift has emerged within the Kurdish Freedom Movement, opening up new perspectives for the political and social transformation of Kurdistan, the Middle East, and beyond.
The different dimensions of this process constitute an interconnected political project that moves from the democratic self-organization of Kurdish society towards broader regional transformation and internationalism. They also highlight the need for a renewed understanding of internationalism—one that responds to the political, social, and historical challenges of the twenty-first century.
Against this background, we want to explore the historical foundations and fundamental principles of a New Internationalism within the Kurdish Freedom Movement. How is internationalism understood and reinterpreted in this new historical era for Kurdistan? What principles can form the basis of an internationalist perspective today, and how can these principles translate into collective political practice?
The seminar will provide space to delve into the understanding of a New Internationalism, discuss its foundational principles, and collectively reflect on the possibilities and challenges of developing an internationalist perspective today. We aim to open up a broader discussion on how to strengthen international solidarity, connect different struggles, and build common perspectives and forms of collective action.
