The first gathering of the series took place at the Old Library of the Clockhouse.
We started the session by welcoming participants, introducing them to OtherWise and briefly explaining the idea behind this series as explained in the beginning. Participants introduced themselves to the group and briefly shared their personal motivation for joining the gathering.
For the first gathering we invited people to collaborate and contribute to a collective artwork. We explored the theme of Third Places by creating a collaborative visual, map-like, piece of art.
We started by individually reflecting on some questions such as:
-“Think of a third place you love or loved. What does it mean to you? Why is it important?”
-“How does a third place feel in the body? What emotions, sounds, and other sensations belong there?”
-“If you could create a third place, what would it look like?”
We then shared our thoughts and reflections with the whole group and moved to a brief break for some tea, snacks, and stretching.
The second part of the gathering was dedicated to collective mapping and art-making and imagining new third places. Participants used different media to create art. We used drawing, collage, various textures, as well as words reflecting on questions such as “What does a third place look like, feel like, or offer to you?”. There was another small break in the meantime where participants ate home-cooked food and had more conversations.
Participants continued with collage making and drawing to finalize a visual map of third places based in Wageningen that already exist or that they would like to see.
The final artwork was exhibited in the Aurora building at Jester's art corner.
