The second edition of Third Places was co-created with
Karina, a WUR student and participant in the first event who knew Afro-Brazilian dances. Since many participants of the first event shared that they would like to have more places where they can go and dance at Wageningen, we thought of dedicating the second edition to dance and movement.
In “Embodying Rhythms of Resistance” we explored Afro-Brazilian dance and music as forms of grassroots cultural resistance. Bringing dance and rhythm, we engaged the body as a political site. We focused on Samba and Brazilian funk and learned about their history through a presentation the facilitator gave to the audience.
After that we started warming our bodies up with some exercises and started learning the steps of the dances. We reflected on how the rhythms feel in our bodies and talked about how dance can be both a form of resistance and pleasure.
