Menstrual Health Day 2026

Published on 2 September 2026 at 13:08

May 28th is International Menstrual Hygiene Day. Every year, we choose to swap the word “hygiene” for “health” to talk about the management of the menstrual cycle. While the term 'hygiene' isn't inherently “wrong”, it can sometimes contribute to the idea of the period as “impure” or “dirty”.

The activities were designed to collectively learn and reflect as we explored Menstrual Justice from multiple perspectives. At lunchtime, we hosted a trivia session together with members from PeriodsTalk, and participants won a copy of a graphic book by the “Treat It Queer” organization and a copy of a Menstrual Handbook. Later on, we continued with a zine-making session where we explored personal and collective menstrual narratives using prompts and mixed materials.

In the evening, we gathered for a screening of “Great Indian Kitchen”, followed by a discussion on gender based discrimination, menstruation, and the invisibility of domestic labour.
