For this session we focused on learning how to create linocut posters of resistance.
What are posters of resistance, and what are we resisting? Printmaking methods like lino are an analogous way of communicating an idea/call/movement and more, and a counteract to digital technologies of mass communication. In the late stage of capitalism that we live in, linocut printing could be a way of resisting the machines and the mass production of communication material.
As every other gathering we started by welcoming participants at the cozy art space of De Cultuurwerkplaats. We dedicated time to giving space to introduce ourselves within the group and share a little bit about motivations of joining the gathering. We also invited participants to first reflect on what does posters of resistance mean to them and if they had any design ideas that they would like to bring to life.
We created a small community by carving, inking, and printing together. At the end of the gathering we had a number of creative and unique prints that participants took with them.
