What is policing? How is safety understood? Is police here to protect communities?
This workshop, facilitated by Claire Oblinger, a WUR alumna and community organizer in New York City, explored topics related to policing and safety. We dived into what policing is, its impact on our communities, and the historical context of police abolition. We imagined abolitionist futures through transformative justice and care infrastructure systems as safety. We explored the themes through discussion and group problem-solving.
Participants received a list of resources to further learn about the topic.
