Third Places - Arts & Crafts Gathering 5th edition: Storytelling through clay-making workshop

Published on 2 September 2026 at 11:46

For this gathering we decided to focus on feelings of belonging, home, and identity through the method of clay-making.

We started by introducing ourselves and sharing what was that it caught our attention and interest regarding this specific topic.

We then took some time to individually reflect on questions such as:
-“Where or what feels like home to you?”
-“What does it mean to live abroad?”
-“What roots you, and what has shaped who you are today?”

After participants shared their thoughts and reflections we began creating small clay figures, each with a hidden symbol or message that reflected personal experiences of identity, migration, and belonging.

During the clay-making process we all shared personal stories and experiences regarding the topic. Participants shared their experience living in Wageningen, the challenges regarding finding a feeling of belonging, making friends and maintaining friendships.

Afterwards, we shared the story behind our pieces and the feelings that guided them. It was a very emotional and personal gathering and participants shared that they felt mentally recharged after it was done.
